DIY Heart Succulent Garden
What you will need:
- 4 x 75 mm x 16 mm x 300 mm pieces timber with mitred ends
- 4 x 67 mm x 16 mm x 268 mm pieces timber for base
- 1 x 300 mm x 300 mm x 12 mm plywood
- Screws and wood glue as necessary
- Paint or wood stain
- Small piece of porous landscaping fabric
- Quality succulent/cacti potting soil
- Selection of succulents
- Pebbles or decorative top dressing of choice
Step 1:
Assemble wooden heart box. Use the 4 pieces of 75 mm x 16 mm x 300 mm for the sides of the container. Insert the base using 4 pieces of 67 mm x 16 mm x 268 mm Cut heart shape in piece of plywood for top. Drill a few drainage holes in the base for drainage. It is important to ensure that your container has drainage and does not become waterlogged.

Step 2:
Paint container with colour of choice. Line container with porous landscaping fabric. Attach plywood with heart cut out to top of planter.

Step 3:
Fill container with a good quality potting soil. Most garden centres sell a potting mixture especially suited for succulents/cacti. Alternatively, you can make your own by using 3 parts good quality potting soil, 2 parts fine pool filter sand and 1 part perlite. Mix together well before filling your planter.

Step 4:
Arrange and carefully transplant your selected plants.

Step 5:
Add a layer of decorative pebbles to finish off your planting. Water to settle in.
