Plant Care:

Tips on how to care for your plant successfully:

Light: Portulacaria afra ‘Medio-Picta’ is best grown in full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Portulacaria afra is not fussy regarding its soil requirements and grows well even in the poorest soils. A free draining soil is best.

Potting: Portulacaria afra grows extremely well in containers. Always ensure that a free draining potting medium is used. We recommend a good quality potting mix with the addition of sharp sand or gravel to improve the drainage.

Watering: Once established Portulacaria afra is extremely drought resistant and will require very little additional watering. Plants growing in containers should be watered thoroughly and then allowed to dry our completely before watering again.

Temperature: Portulacaria afra can cope with the occasional very light frost but prefers minimum winter temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius.

Fertiliser: Portulacaria afra will benefit from applications of a balanced water-soluble fertiliser during spring and summer. Always use a very dilute solution of ¼ to ½ of the recommended dilution rate.
